Creators
of Peace is an international grass roots
organisation which empowers women
to be radical peace-builders, starting with themselves.
This
facilitation will give a small 'taste' of a Creators of Peace circle. Whilst Creators of Peace currently focuses on women, this session encourages us all to
explore what peace means to us as facilitators and what our potential roles
as “peace-builders” could be. We will also discuss some of the
facilitation methods and principles used in the Creators of Peace
circles.
The
focus is on building trust and friendship across divides and differences through sharing
personal stories and on understanding the nature of peace and the role of
each of us plays in destroying or creating peace. Creators of Peace
Circles have taken place in over thirty countries around the world from Sudan
to Switzerland, to Sydney and the Solomon Islands.

SOARING – A strengths based approach to strategic thinking and planning with John Loty | Monday August 13, 2012
|
SOAR is a positive
strengths-based approach to strategic thinking and planning. It is a
development of the Appreciative Inquiry (AI) philosophy and methodology.
Instead of the traditional
SWOT analysis, the SOAR model encourages us to identify our Strengths,
Opportunities, Aspirations and Results.
The goals for
the 'quick' SOAR session:
1. To provide an experience
of the SOAR process so that you can evaluate if SOAR would work for you or
could be used by you in your particular contexts
2. To apply the SOAR model
to explore the forces and factors that give life to facilitators in our work
3. To appreciatively
inquire into (and perhaps be inspired by) the "root causes of
success" experienced by other facilitators
John Loty has worked with
Appreciative Inquiry and SOAR thought leaders around the world and uses these
strengths based approaches in all his work.
So come along and enjoy the
experience of ‘soaring’.

“Transformational Leadership – Influencing in a time of Fear” with Godwin Vaz | Monday June 18, 2012 | 5.30pm
The sphere of
Transformational Leadership is where a leader or transformational change
agent facilitates profound and positive
shifts in capability, character and results for themselves, others and their
organisation.
Come and join in this
stimulating, interactive and thought-provoking session. We will experience
and have a conversation on the following relevant themes:
· What are the
strengths and shortfalls of traditional management and leadership approaches,
in our current times – what’s missing for ‘whole system’ repair and health
·
What are the consequences of our ‘outer world dominance’ and
the loss of Self Intimacy?
·
Can there be influence without authority or positional power?
How and when?
·
Navigating through our leaderless, visionless, fear-based,
fast-change world
· Why the mind
(analysis, logic, prediction) is not useful for bigger decisions and profound
change (personal and organisational) – the costs of the ‘Enlightenment’ and
the feared/rejected gifts of the ‘Endarkenment’
This session will also be
useful for Senior Leaders, Transformational Change Agents, Senior
Consultants, Visionary Creatives.
About
the Facilitator:
Godwin Vaz has been
exploring, researching and working in the Transformational space for 25
years. He has been an executive coach, consultant and leadership development

Behind the ‘Seens’ - Facilitating Fixed Positions with Kingsley Nowell | Monday May 14, 5.30PM
The facilitator will be Kingsley Nowell, regular participant in the SFN. He has had a lifetime of involvement in The Salvation Army including 28 years as an officer which highlighted the human need for new ways to work together. For 11 years he has been an internal facilitator where his focus has been the world of facilitation and its implications for faith communities and beyond. He lives in the ‘squircle’ - that ambiguous space between a square and a circle – his metaphor for the challenge of introducing change to a highly structured, familiar, valued entity.

“Giving Voice to Values” with Sharon McGann | Monday April 16 at 5.30PM
Many people genuinely believe that if they voice their values at work it will be a “career limiting move”. That belief prevents people – facilitators included – from living our highest values at work.
In this session, Sharon McGann draws on the Giving Voice to Values curriculum* to explore how you can voice your values in the facilitation workspace, or other workplaces.
During the session you will be invited to discuss in small groups times in work situations when you decided not to voice your values and where you tried to voice your values even if you weren’t successful. You will have the opportunity to work confidentially to discuss and practice what you could say and do, which is in alignment with both your values and your personality.
*Giving Voice to Values is an action-oriented pedagogical approach for developing the skills, knowledge and commitment required to implement values-based leadership. Rather than the usual focus on ethical analysis, the GVV curriculum focuses on ethical implementation and asks the question: “What would I say and do if I were going to act on my values?”
About Sharon McGann
Sharon McGann is a facilitator and developer of leadership and management programs for the corporate sector and more recently the community sector. Sharon is passionate about sustainability and social justice and is using the Giving Voice to Values curriculum into development programs as well as developing Australian case studies. The GVV program was developed Mary Gentile, from Babson College in the USA with The Aspen Institute as founding partner, along with the Yale School of Management, and is offered worldwide to educators.

“Using Action Methods to Assist Insight” with Rollo Browne | Monday March 12, 2012 | 5.30pm
Facilitators and coaches all value the 'aha' moment in our work. A new idea, a sudden understanding that solves or reframes a complicated situation. One of the big attractions of insight is because we know that people really remember the ideas achieved through insight. This is highly significant in in individual and group learning. It would be great if we could create insight on demand! |
“Over the last decade researchers have begun to understand more about what happens in the brain at the moment of insight. This gives some clues as to the conditions that make it more likely for people to generate their own insights. Intrigued by this I began to wonder if we could adapt our techniques to maximise the possibility of insight.
In this session I propose to examine the implications of the neuroscience of insight and apply this to dilemmas that we face. I believe that by the use of several simple action techniques to support the insight conditions, we can at least generate a new perspective and, perhaps, even generate insight. You will also get a chance to practice in small groups”.
| Rollo Browne is Director of BrowneWright Consulting and uses action methods extensively in his work as coach, facilitator and organisational development - www.brownewright.com.au. He is a Sociodramatist, and Director of Training at Psychodrama NSW, - www.anzpasydney.org. Rollo loves supervising difficult group situations, and teaches groupwork and the use of Morenian action methods (sociometry, sociodrama, psychodrama and role training). The key to his work is to assist people and groups to access their own vitality and apply it to situations they face. Rollo can be contacted via his web site or on 0417682085.
