Revealing the System in the Room

Our host

Benny Callaghan has been facilitating groups in a range of contexts across Australia and overseas for more than 25 years. He got his start taking groups out bush with Outward Bound, inspiring an approach that values the natural world, metaphor and spaciousness in designing engagements. As Founder and Chief Collaborator at Systems Collaboration Partners, his current work focuses on facilitating collaborations across siloes, sectors, jurisdictions and difference.

What to expect

In this session, you’ll be invited into a creative exercise to reflect on a facilitation experience. Through it we’ll explore themes of group identity, relationships, power, boundaries and facilitator identity. This exercise will help us tune into invisible systems within groups and the contexts we work within. We’ll then look at how we turn that reflection into practice and become present to the system while facilitating.

About Facilitators Network:

The Facilitators Network was established in 1992 by Richard and Maria Maguire. The network is a self-organising Community of Practice with more than 700 subscribers and is run by a small core group. There is no formal membership – everyone is welcome. There is a closed email list from which we send meeting reminders once per month. Meetings are experiential. They attract between 25 and 40 participants including independent facilitators, trainers and consultants, volunteers and those employed in business, public sector, not for profits and the community sector. A donation of $5 per participant covers outgoings.
